These air fryer crispy halloumi bites are an ideal quick nibble for you to make! Enjoy these as an appetizer with hot honey!
Lately, I have been having a re-obsession over halloumi. I have phases with food where I spend weeks only eating it and then I stop for a period of time. At the moment, for me it’s the time where I’m eating halloumi non stop! I like to add to my meals in several ways, either grated on my favourite pasta, simply grilled pieces as a side to my protein, added to my salad, etc. Recently, I have discovered how to make them as bites and let me tell you, I’m hooked! This cheese is for perfect for these. It just melts enough not to burn you, and it has this wonderful texture that it almost make you forget that you are actually eating cheese!
What is halloumi?
Halloumi is a cheese coming from the Mediterranean island of Cyprus and the Middle East. It’s traditionally made from a mixture of goat and sheep’s milk. Lately, it has gained a worldwide fame for its impeccable flavour and unique texture once cooked, as it has a high melting point. Although it can be eaten raw, it is often grilled or fried before serving.
How to make these halloumi Bites?
Start by chopping the halloumi cheese into small bite sized cubes. Drench each piece of cheese in the beaten eggs and then in the prepared breadcrumbs mixture. Once done, plate them and sprinkle a generous amount of flakey salt. I like to serve these air fryer crispy halloumi bites with hot honey on the side.
