Apple Fritter rings are a quick and easy delicious dessert. Slices of apples are dipped in a light and fluffy batter to create a little perfect soft doughnut like treat.

It’s that time of year once again, when apples are at their prime. Here in Luxembourg they are truly everywhere! I have said several times in previous apple recipes, during this time of year we tend to go to the Steinsel orchards to pick up the apples ourselves. Whenever we go we also like to eat something to eat and after a classic grillwurst, I always end up have a delicious plate of apple fritter rings! So for this year I have decided to recreate them myself for once!

How to make these Apple Fritter Rings
To make apple fritter rings, start by slicing the apples into thin, even rounds—about 12 slices per apple—and remove the core so each piece has a clean centre without seeds or the tough middle. Place the slices in a bowl of cold water with a tablespoon of lemon juice to prevent browning. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and salt, then mix in the flour. Once a thick paste forms, gradually add the milk until the batter is sticky but slightly loose. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot to about 170°C. Pat the apple slices dry with paper towels, dip them into the batter, shake off the excess, and carefully lower them into the hot oil. Fry for about 3 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crisp. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil, then serve immediately with a generous dusting of icing sugar.

FAQs
Which are the best apples to use?
My favourite apples to use in these apple fritters are granny smith, as they keep a little bite. However, you can use other apples that are good for cooking and baking such as golden delicious, gala, pink lady, jonagold, honey crisp, bramley, etc.

How to store leftover Apple Fritter Rings?
For any leftover apple fritters store in an airtight container in the fridge for not more than 3 days. I recommend to place the fritters flat, and to place paper towels below and above the fritters to absorb any excess oils and moisture. Re-heat in an oven or air fryer as they might get a bit soggy in a microwave.
What to serve these fritters with?
I like to serve these apple fritters simply. by sprinkling icing sugar on top. However, you can also roll each fritter in a cinnamon sugar mixture. Alternatively, they are also great with a side of of vanilla cream to be dipped in or poured over.
